Employment References
To ensure each employment episode is ready for assessment, please provide an employment reference letter for each relevant employer. This must be on the company letterhead and be signed and dated by an authorised person from the company (digital signatures are preferred and must be provided with a digital verification certificate that authenticates the signer’s identity).
All references must contain the following specific information from the employer:
- Company Letterhead, Employer name, Address
- Company website URL address
- Your Full Name
- Date of letter
- Start and End dates of employment in DD/MM/YYYY format (If your position is current, the reference should show the start date, and for the end date, indicate 'CURRENT')
- 5B Note - If you have held multiple positions over a long tenure, then please insert a simple table with columns Position Title, Start Date, End Date, Location. Then add a row for each Position Title held (refer to 5B in example image)
- Employment status (permanent full-time, part-time, contractor)
- Minimum number of hours worked per week
- Annual Salary before tax and any benefits (as per your company’s guidelines)
- Location of work – this will either be ‘Australia’ or ‘Outside Australia’ for each Position held.
- Position/Role Title e.g. ‘Software Engineer’, ‘Database Administrator’
- Bullet point duties performed – this must confirm the duties you carried out in the role.
- 11B Note – If you have held multiple positions over a long tenure, then you must provide bullet point duties under each position held with start and end dates in DD/MM/YYYY format.
- Contact details of the signatory (i.e. phone number and official work email address - no personal email addresses)
ACS acknowledges that every employer is different and may be bound by company reference letter layout templates. An example reference letter layout covering the numbers above is presented for your understanding.
If you cannot obtain an employment reference or are self-employed, you will need to submit a Statutory Declaration or Affidavit.
Documents in a language other than English will need to be translated.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Employment references that do not meet all the above requirements will not be assessed
- Employment references must be signed by your employer or a person authorised by your employer
- The name, position and contact details of the person making the reference must be clearly indicated
- Employment References with duties copied directly from Occupations and ANZSCO codes or from another reference will not be accepted
- Experience can only be considered up until the submission date of your application – If dates or duties are unclear or open to interpretation, the work episode will be assessed as not suitable
PLEASE DO NOT upload employment contracts, offer letters, appointment letters or position descriptions as they are not assessable and may delay processing of your application.
