Virtual Support Teams Now Offering Assistance on New Member and Supplemental Applications

Chapter Registrars and other members who are completing lineage research and the application process for New Member Applications or Supplemental Applications now have a new free resource!

The Lineage Research Virtual Support Team (for New Member Applications only) and the Volunteer Genealogists Supplemental Application Virtual Support Team (for Supplementals only) are now up and running.

In support of the National Society’s ambitious membership goals, these teams are an outgrowth of last summer’s successful Online Balcony Volunteers program that paired trained Volunteers with members seeking assistance through personal consultation sessions hosted via video- or teleconference. This ongoing effort will allow us to reach far more members than those who could attend Congress in person.

The program kicked off in January and already, nearly two dozen members seeking assistance with New Member Applications or Supplementals have been helped! Here’s what two happy members said:

Working with Karlyn has been a wonderful experience! She is so responsive and knowledgeable. I have benefited from her advice. She is still advising me. She has agreed to review my work which is appreciated. I highly recommend this program. Susan – CA

I thought it was something wonderful when Sara Jane contacted me within an incredibly short period of time. With everything else traveling so slowly, this was a delight. When you are at the depressing point that your research has hit a complete brick wall, this response, enthusiasm, and willingness sure put the spark of hope back into the work. In a time of isolation, I found two new DAR friends, in different states. The experience has made me feel confident that DAR is supportive of its members in its mission. Blanche - TX

The Virtual Support Teams for both Lineage Research and Volunteer Genealogists Committees are DAR Volunteers who have completed GEP I and II. These ladies are eager to share their time and expertise with any member wanting to learn more.

Members seeking assistance in the following areas are encouraged to contact us:

The goal of both teams is to minimize errors in applications by training members to submit complete, well-prepared applications that can be approved quickly and that do not generate an AIR letter.

Volunteers offer mentoring and guidance in the completion of lineage research, service proof and the DAR Application. In the spirit of teaching a Daughter to fish, these Volunteers will pass along vital skills for every chapter’s growth and success.

For help from the Lineage Research Virtual Support Team, the National Vice Chair Research Advocacy, Kitty Watters, is managing this effort. You may contact her for details about how to volunteer or how to request assistance by writing her at [email protected] . Remember, this Team supports New Member Applications, exclusively. Learn more from the Members’ Website under the Lineage Research Committee’s Virtual Support Team webpage.

For the Volunteer Genealogists Supplemental Application Virtual Support Team, National Vice Chair Supplemental Research Advocacy, Sue King, serves coordinating volunteers and members seeking assistance on Supplemental Applications. Sue can be reached at [email protected] . Additional details can be found on the Volunteer Genealogists Committee webpage, under Supplemental Application Virtual Support.
